I was looking for patriotic art and found the artwork of Terry Redlin. His paintings are beautiful, but what I found very exciting was his series of paintings called the "America, the Beautiful" series. He has done a painting for each phrase in the song: "O Beautiful for Spacious Skies", "For Amber Waves of Grain", "For Purple Mountain Magesties", "Above the Fruited Plain", "America! America!", "God Shed His Grace on Thee", "And Crown thy Good w/ Brotherhood", "From Sea to Shining Sea".
Each piece of artwork quietly captures a piece of American country life, and they can be found with his collected works on his website https://www.redlinart.com.

LDS Pioneer Art - "Prairie Angels" by Leon Parson
I was looking for LDS Pioneer art online and I stumbled upon "Prairie Angels", a remarkable painting of two blonde haired pioneer girls standing beside a covered wagon. One is holding a doll and both wear somber expressions. The painting was done by Leon Parson, well known wildlife artist who has created a few religious pieces as well.
This piece is unique in it's close-up focus on the children's expressions as they are waiting by a wagon crossing the plains.

LDS Art for Youth - "Lift Up My Soul"
Artist Doc Christensen is offering the opportunity for youth to have an individualized picture of themselves kneeling before the Savior with the temple in the background. The portrait is digitally created, and printed by the person requesting the print. This service is being offered for free when requested by the bishop of a ward for the youth of that ward, and has been entitled the "Lift Up My Soul" project. The only cost would be for the ward to print the images. To learn more, visit docbox.org.

LDS Art by Del Parson - No Shoes
I was looking on Del Parson's website and found a very beautiful piece called "No Shoes". The painting depicts the Savior walking on what appears to be a Pacific Island shore, holding a barefoot boy on his shoulders and holding the hand of a young girl with long dark brown hair. The girl is looking into Jesus' face with a very happy and peaceful expression. I had never seen this particular LDS Art before and I was very impressed by the beauty and peaceful feeling I got looking at the picture.

LDS Art for Mothers - Willow Tree Figurines
Willow Tree figurines are simple and inspiring. My husband was given one that looked just like him holding a baby, and we have had three now so I love looking at it. They would make a perfect Mother's Day gift. There is one entitled "Forget Me Not" and is of a woman holding some forget-me-not flowers. It would be the perfect companion for Elder Uchtdorf's book, Liz Lemon Swindle's painting, or just by itself. On Mother's Day we remember our mothers who have not ever fogotten us. We can remind them that we do not forget them, nor does the Lord.

LDS Art - "Forget Me Not"
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of the LDS church, spoke in the Relief Society General Meeting of the 2011 General Conference about a beautiful flower: the forget me not. His talk, entitled "Forget Me Not" reminded women in the church to be patient with themselves, find happiness now, remember the Lord's love for them and other wonderful counsel. Liz Lemon Swindle, renowned LDS artist, created a beautiful piece of LDS art, also entitled "Forget Me Not" that captures the forget me not flower and the message given by Elder Uchtdorf.

LDS Art by Greg Olsen - Scenes of the Savior
My husband and I attended a presentation by Greg Olsen yesterday. He showed his artwork, told stories from when some of the paintings were created, and bore his testimony of the Savior. He has a strong desire that the Savior become real and personal to people, and he seeks to achieve that in his Savior art. He not only captured biblical scenes, but drew contemporary scenes of individuals in various walks of life sitting with the Savior. We got to see his new and even yet unnamed paintings that were quite breathtaking. We exchanged business cards with him, and his website is gregolsen.com.

LDS Art Toy Figures from the LDS Friend
This year, the LDS Friend is featuring cut out scripture figures and 10 of the 12 issues. You can cut them out and mount them on cardstock, cardboard, or popsicle sticks. I cut them out and paste them on thin cardboard, and cover them with packing tape to make them last longer. I also look in the back page of Ensign issues and past friend issues for pictures where the character could be cut out. We have quite a collection now and my son loves to play with them. I tell him the stories, then I hear him acting them out. One time I overheard him say, "I'm Joseph Smith and I'm teaching you the gospel," to his sister!

New LDS Art - Simon Dewey "O My Father"
I was reading the April 2012 edition of the LDS Ensign, and on page 40 is an article entitled, "The Atonement by Elder David A. Bednar. The featured painting I recognized immediately as being one of Simon Dewey's as his style is unique, but I do not remember seeing the painting before. It depicts the Savior in the Garden of Gethsamane, and it gives a closer view of the Savior's face and gives you a sense of the emotion he might have been feeling. It is a beautiful piece of LDS Art. Today, "O My Father" is featured on the LDS Ensign homepage.
